Welcome to Year 1 and 2!
Our Teaching Team
Mrs. Gavrilovic: Monday to Wednesday
Mrs. Hooton: Thursday and Friday
We have had a wonderful start to the year, and it has been great getting to know all of you. Here’s to a year of amazing learning!
Our Learning Overview
Reading
Students will bring their reading books home daily. Please ensure your child reads to an adult at least three times a week, and ask them to have their reading record signed.
Homework
Homework will be set every Wednesday and should be returned before the following Friday. The expected homework includes:
- 10-15 minutes of daily tasks, including reading to an adult
- Approx. 1 hour of weekly homework (not including daily reading)
- Practicing phonics
- Spellings (linked to phonics)
Occasionally, project-based homework may be assigned over holiday periods. This will relate to upcoming topics and often encourages creativity through presentations such as posters, models, and journals. We also encourage participation in curriculum-based House Team competitions.
PE Lessons
PE classes will be taught by Mr. Wickens, Mr. Stead, and Mr. Sampson every Tuesday morning. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit and removes any earrings on these days.
Learning in Nature
Every Wednesday afternoon, students will participate in Learning in Nature sessions. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, with items like waterproof jackets. Wellies may be needed later in the term. This dynamic outdoor learning environment fosters exploration, questioning, and physical activity, promoting a positive sense of well-being and supporting all areas of development.
